We will establish INTERAGENCY COLLABORATION and COMMUNITY ORIENTED SOLUTIONS.
COMBAT CRIME/CITIZEN ACCOUNTABILITY
It is my #1 priority to fully staff the Sheriff’s Office in order to ensure our county jails, city and county government buildings and medical facilities are safe places to conduct daily operations. A fully staffed department means electronic monitoring and warrants services units can effectively do their jobs. In addition, we will build a more collaborative relationship with the police department and other city agencies in order to address the open air drug use, violent crimes, commercial burglaries and other issues plaguing our beloved City. Furthermore, we will help educate the community about how their votes matter within the criminal justice system.
IMPROVE REHABILITATION/REDUCE RECIDIVISM
I plan to improve the Sheriff’s Office professional development/job certification and rehabilitation programs for the jail population and at-risk individuals in our community in order to reduce recidivism. We need to invest in quality mentorship-based programs with the “whole person” approach for the justice involved in order to break the cycle of recidivism.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
My goal is to develop active working relationships with the citizens and various communities in San Francisco so we can collaboratively solve crime and other issues that every neighborhood faces. There is no one size fits all response so we need to empower our community members to provide community oriented solutions to the issues they face on a regular basis. We want to utilize better technology to connect with our community members and to ensure their voices are heard.
TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY
I want to build trust between the Sheriff’s Office and the communities we serve. We will develop a system to keep the community updated on the latest initiatives and programs put on by the Sheriff’s Office and to allow for feedback. We will work tirelessly to ensure our Sheriff’s Office serves the needs of all our community members. This includes access to information that involves the latest law enforcement practices, civilian oversight and legal updates in case law. We need to maintain the community's trust through open dialogue and active listening.
LEADERSHIP THROUGH ACTION
Mission accomplishment and troop welfare are the two most important leadership traits I can provide the Sheriff's Office. The mission is to provide first-class public safety to the citizens, employees and visitors of our illustrious City by the Bay. If people do not feel safe, they cannot thrive in our city. Troop welfare is taking care of the most valuable asset in any organization - its human resource. In this case, that includes our sworn personnel, civilian support staff, contractors and volunteers. We need to invest in a wellness program, where diet, exercise and holistic therapies are utilized. My goal is to ensure our employees are taken care of, both on and off-duty by building a family and team culture.
